Across the Margin is an Art & Culture magazine based in Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 2010, it was created to provide a place for new and upcoming writers to share their stories and viewpoints in an easy and straightforward manner. The magazine has since grown to embrace multiple forms of expression, from art to photography to poetry to editorial and opinion pieces and beyond. As a lead design voice at the company, I am a driving force behind the design, layout, branding and overall “feel” of its many facets.
Since its inception, Across the Margin has grown rapidly and expanded its offerings. The company now owns a publishing imprint, ATM Publishing, and several notable podcasts which have been picked up by the Osiris Podcast Network. I am a lead creative voice in these ventures as well working to promote its content across digital, print and web and expand its brand.
Across the Margin’s color palette will lean heavy on black and white to provide contrast with pops of a beautiful dark red color to highlight areas of visual appeal. When appropriate, a dusky warm grey will aid in enhancing visual effects.
BRANDING INCORPORATING WORDS AND VISUAL ELEMENTS
Since Across the Margin was founded initially as a literary magazine, there will sometimes be a focus on incorporating the written word in branding and marketing designs, as an homage to those beginnings.
